Quick tips for navigating Black Hat & surviving Vegas in August

  1. Hydrate Early, Hydrate Often:
Las Vegas in August is HOT (often 100°F/38°C+). Drink plenty of water, even inside the venue, to stay sharp and avoid the dreaded “con brain fog.”
  2. Dress for Comfort (and Layers):
Mandalay Bay keeps it chilly indoors. Consider light, breathable clothing for outside, and bring a sweater or jacket for the air-conditioned conference rooms.
  3. Wear Good Shoes:
You’ll be walking a lot between sessions, the Business Hall, and those surprise hallway chats. Comfortable shoes are a must.
  4. Plan Your Path:
The Mandalay Bay Convention Center is massive. Download the venue map, and scope out Startup City and your favorite talks in advance to avoid getting lost.
  5. Beat the Crowds:
Arrive early for keynotes, and take advantage of quieter times (like early afternoon) to visit Startup City and connect with vendors, like Vorlon!
  6. Recharge (Your Body & Devices):
Bring a portable charger. Outlets get snatched up fast, and your phone will be working overtime.
  7. Step Outside (Briefly):
If you need a break from the crowds, step outside. But, not for too long! Shade and sunscreen are your friends.
  8. Enjoy Vegas (Responsibly):
There’s plenty to do after hours, but pace yourself. Black Hat is a marathon, not a sprint.
