Introducing DataMatrix™: Cracking Open the Black Box of SaaS Security

Introducing DataMatrix™: Cracking Open the Black Box of SaaS Security
5:09

In cybersecurity, context is everything. And for too long, SaaS security has lacked it.

Today, we’re changing that.

We’re excited to introduce DataMatrix™, a major step forward in Vorlon’s mission to secure the entire SaaS ecosystem. This patent-pending engine is now part of the Vorlon platform. It is purpose-built to solve one of modern security's most critical and often overlooked problems: the API data visibility gaps that exist across most SaaS environments.

The digital enterprise is more connected and more exposed than ever before

Nearly every modern business runs on SaaS. But SaaS isn’t just a collection of apps. It’s a living system of interconnected workflows, automations, and background services held together by APIs and tokens. Behind the scenes, data flows constantly between applications, cloud platforms, and third-party vendors.

These connections enable speed and scale. They also create complexity and risk.

Most security tools weren’t built to manage this kind of environment. They monitor posture and policy for individual apps in isolation. But they can’t see how apps interact, how identities behave across systems, or how sensitive data moves between vendors.

That’s where incidents go undetected. That’s where attackers operate quietly. And that’s where business leaders are left with unanswered questions when something goes wrong.

Most SaaS applications still fail to meet basic security logging requirements

Enterprises don’t just use SaaS—they depend on it. Yet, in our research into 70 popular SaaS applications:

  • 30% lacked full API logging
  • 40% couldn’t distinguish human from machine activity
  • Nearly 50% required manual intervention or extra licensing to access logs at all
It’s no surprise attackers are taking advantage. API connections between SaaS apps are the fastest-growing threat vector, and they’re often completely unmonitored.

Today’s SaaS security model is fundamentally incomplete

SaaS security has long been treated as a configuration problem. Tools flag misconfigured settings, excessive permissions, or stale accounts. But they miss the bigger picture: the activity happening across the ecosystem.

What’s missing is context.

Security teams don’t need more dashboards. They need a real-time understanding of how applications, identities (both human and non-human), and data interact—so they can detect threats early and respond with confidence.

That’s why we built DataMatrix™.

Introducing DataMatrix™

DataMatrix™ is Vorlon’s new engine for SaaS ecosystem security. It creates a continuously updated digital twin of your SaaS environment, built from fragmented SaaS data, API communications, and Vorlon proprietary research. It doesn't stop at surface-level settings. It captures the real interactions taking place. It also fills in the logging gaps left by most SaaS vendors.

With DataMatrix™, you can:

  • Visualize how applications and services are exchanging sensitive data
  • Detect unusual behavior from bots, tokens, and third-party integrations
  • Attribute risk to specific identities, connections, or apps
  • Investigate incidents faster with clear, contextual evidence
  • Respond in minutes with precise, guided remediation

DataMatrix™ reveals the full scope of your SaaS environment, including the flows and relationships that traditional tools overlook. It treats your SaaS stack not as a collection of silos but as a dynamic, interdependent system.

Built for the way SaaS works now

The SaaS attack surface is evolving. It’s not just misconfigurations or compromised credentials. It’s the constant drift of access, automation, and integrations—many of which operate without human oversight.

These risks come from:

  • App-to-app data flows that aren’t logged or monitored
  • Non-human identities like service accounts and OAuth tokens that outlive their purpose
  • AI-driven automation and no-code tools that introduce new connections without a security review

DataMatrix™ monitors this environment in real time. It gives security leaders the visibility and control needed to reduce risk without slowing down the business.
